Walk the trekking routes that reveal the natural character of the Drniš region.
Natural beauty and geomorphological wonders of Promina
Promina captivates with its forests, springs, karst formations and viewpoints that tell the story of the landscape and its people.
Mount Promina guides visitors through a variety of natural scenes — from shaded forest paths and fresh water springs to limestone cliffs and geological phenomena such as the Liluša cave and fossil sites. Along the trails you’ll encounter vineyards, old shepherd cabins and wide views over the green Petrovo Polje, making every walk feel like an authentic journey through the Dalmatian hinterland. The network of trails allows visitors to explore at their own pace, whether they prefer a short walk or a longer trekking route. Promina is especially impressive at sunrise, when the landscape lights up, and again at sunset when warm colours fill the sky. This diversity draws an increasing number of visitors, nature lovers and adventurers seeking tranquillity and natural beauty.
The ascent to Čavnovka and the mountain lodge of PD Promina
Čavnovka, Promina’s highest peak, offers panoramic views that reward every step of the ascent, while the mountain lodge provides a welcoming base for hikers.
The highest peak of Promina, Čavnovka (1,148 m), offers one of the most impressive views in the region — stretching towards the Kornati archipelago and the deep canyons of the Krka and Čikola rivers. At around 855 metres above sea level lies the mountain lodge of the Promina Mountaineering Society (PD Promina), which can be visited or used for overnight stays with prior reservation. It serves as an excellent rest point as well as a starting base for further exploration. The routes leading to the summit are diverse enough to appeal to both experienced hikers and casual walkers. Gentle, walkable sections alternate with slightly steeper climbs, giving every visitor a sense of challenge without excessive difficulty. The view from the top of Čavnovka is always a memorable reward.
Marked trails and easy access to the mountain
Promina is easy to reach and offers several well-marked hiking trails that can be completed in about two hours.
Access to Promina is very straightforward: from Drniš, on the road towards Oklaj, a narrow asphalt lane branches off to the right and leads to the village of Lišnjak. From there, a wide gravel road continues towards the mountain lodge and further up to the summit. Hikers can choose between several marked routes, including the trail from Drniš via Lišnjak and the Mali Točak spring, the route passing the Church of St John in Badanj, and the trail starting from Siverić. The average time needed to reach the lodge or the summit is around two hours, making these routes ideal for half-day excursions. Clear signage and naturally walkable terrain ensure a safe and pleasant hiking experience, even for those with less hiking experience.
